Second, when the acid enters the lungs, it will trigger some nerve reflexes in order to make the acid out through the airways. Those two possibilities can lead to the shortness of breath. Commonly, it occurs during sleeping. The injury of airways can also cause other respiratory problems such asthma and aspiration pneumonia.
In order to prevent shortness of breath that is caused by acid reflux, it is recommended that people change their lifestyle. Due to the fact that commonly acid reflux is triggered by the bad behavior during or after eating, we can change that behavior such not lying down right after eating or avoiding snack or meals before sleeping. The speed when you are eating also can be a big factor that can cause acid reflux. So we should control the speed when we eat. It is recommended that we set some spaces during eating in order to help LES to tighten and close properly. Due to some kinds of food that can cause acid reflux, it is also recommended that we should avoid consuming too much acidic, fatty and spicy food.
