12 Signs and Omens of Ringing Ears

Western medicine would describe ringing ears as a symptom of some underlying medical condition that a person is faced with. But, in Eastern medicine, ears ringing falls under the category of signs and omens. Ancient Chinese medical practitioners and philosophers had their own interpretations of what ringing ears meant. Depending on which ear was ringing and the time of day it was ringing, this would have a specific meaning attached to it for that person.

The 12 Signs and Omens of Ringing Ears

The Ancient Chinese Almanac called “Tung Shu” was the first written literature about ear ringing signs and omens. The book shows that the signs and omens of ringing ears are broken up into 2-hour increments throughout the day and night. This means there are a total of 12 signs and omens for each ear which correspond to a specific 2-hour time slot throughout the day. Below are those 12 signs and omens.
